Ancient and contemporary mosaics seen during travel in Spain, England and Italy sparked Heather's interest in the artform. Her work explores connections both to nature--as experienced growing up on the Canadian prairies--and the urban aesthetic of Chicago, her home for the last 10 years.

Heather is currently on hiatus from a career in rehabilitation medicine to continue these explorations in mosaics and to spend time with 3-yr-old daughter, Clio.

Artist Statement

Current work uses simple geometric and organic shapes enriched by the vibrant colors of Italian glass tile and found pieces--details from ceramics and hardware--to explore patterns in nature and life.

In Heather's work, grout not only provides the enduring binding for fragile tesserae but also becomes an element within the work in its own right, completing patterns in negative space.
